Why do I need a Skip Permit?
When placing a skip on the road or any public land every customer needs to have a pre-applied Highway Permit from the local Council Authority. Atlantis Waste is able to obtain this on your behalf and these needs to be granted before we can deliver any skip onto public land. Contact us and speak to one of or friendly members of staff for more information and advice on permits. Atlantis Waste is proud to offer an excellent range of skips for any job, large or small. Please feel free to contact us today for help and advice.
You need to obtain a skip permit to place a builder’s skip on the highway, which is contained under Section 139 of the Highways Act 1980, but you do not need a skip permit from the council in order to place a skip on private property.
You can’t put a skip on the public pavement, only on a public road.
You may need to put safety lights and markings on or around the skip. This could include:
- reflective markings
- traffic cones
- night-time safety lamps
- the name and telephone number of the skip hire company
Contact your local council to find exact rules for lights and markings in your area.
